An Angel’s Name

Posted by on Jan 6, 2017

14-Presence_150Many people ask me about the name of their guardian angels. I used to be really keen (about 20 years ago) on helping people to connect with the name of their personal angels because I felt at the time that the name was in some way essential for a good connection – but do you know … now I’m just not sure it matters.

A name is an energy, a vibration, a sound. After all, a pet doesn’t know how the word looks when we write its name, or care how it is spelt does it? But it hears the sound and the vibration of authority in your voice and comes running (well if it is trained too of course!). A baby soon recognises its own name and the names of its siblings, for the same reasons. It ‘feels’ the vibration and energy as its name is spoken. Names are sound vibrations that carry meaning.
If it is a familiar sounding name we hear when we ask in our meditation we sometimes think it cannot possibly be the name of an angel. Why not? Because our ego gets in the way and whispers doubt into our head. So, if you feel you have ‘heard’ the name of your personal guardian angels when you ask them yet it doesn’t seem right – because maybe it was a Sam, or a Sarah, or Fred, don’t worry about it. The names are not always ethereal sounding because they contain an energy form – the word or name itself is not what we think it necessarily means.

Set a time and a place and create a sacred space for connecting to your angels and then sense in whichever way you do it best. Either through hearing, feeling, seeing an image or sensing in your own unique way, and then believe and trust that this is how your angel is presenting itself to you, and allow yourself to know that when you want to reconnect replicate that sensation from your memory and whisper “angels please come nearer to me now, and hear my heart’s call”.

Here’s a little piece I wrote for Spirit & Destiny magazine to enable people to set a sacred space. Do this for yourself and then you can ask them for something to help you recognise their presence if you are not one of those people who ‘sees’ their angels (and believe me few of us are).

Welcome to my Workshop:
It’s said that to bring the angels closer to us we need to create an area of our lives where they would feel a calm and harmonious energy. When we want to meditate or simply to sit and be alone to connect with the angels it is important to know that you have a really ‘safe’ space to do this. Here’s some ideas how you can.

Creating a Sacred Space

• Choose a place where you feel most calm and peaceful.
• Clean the space, from any extra clutter and dust.
• Using either a sagebrush or incense, waft the smoke into all corners.
• Say your favourite prayer, chant or poem dedicating the space to the angelic realms and inviting the angels closer (by name if you wish).
• Place pictures or other representations of angels you feel drawn to.
• Choose your favourite crystals to enhance your angelic connection.
• Light a candle representing divine light and the element of fire.
• Put fresh flowers, or a healthy pot plant in your space (water & earth).
• Burn two drops of essential oil, such as rose, rose-geranium or lavender in water (or on cotton wool over the radiator) to fragrance the air.
• Play and enjoy some soothing music of your choice.
• Lastly, you can protect your sacred space by calling in the energy of Archangel Michael.

I hope this helps, and if you would like more of these ‘Welcome to my workshop’ snippets please let me know.

Angels in our Midst

AngelInsight_Joy2For many readers across the USA and Canada, this week sees the celebration of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is rooted in English traditions dating from the Protestant Reformation. It also has aspects of a harvest festival, even though the harvest across much of the Northern Hemisphere occurs well before the late-November date on which the modern Thanksgiving holiday is celebrated. Celebrations of a successful harvest go back centuries and although many countries do not formally take a holiday at this time, I invite all readers across the world to join with our North American friends to give thanks to Mother Earth for all her bounty and abundance.

For many, Thanksgiving is also about entertaining friends and family and it reminded me of two passages from my book, Advice from Angels, which I think are especially relevant.

An angel is like the perfect guest, always brings gifts and never a burden.

Many of the gifts given to us by the angels are in the form of dreams and visions. Try this simple meditation when you have a few minutes spare this weekend:

  • Take yourself into a meditative state, by sitting comfortably, with a straight back and listen to some gentle music.
  • Breathing deeply, allow yourself to visualise walking on a mountain side with a marvellous view all around you.
  • Imagine that you are walking higher, and higher, where the air is pure and fragrant.
  • Imagine that ahead of you is a beautiful, large ornate golden gate.
  • As you walk towards it the gate opens slowly and you are surrounded by amazingly bright golden light. Breath in the light allowing it to enfold and infuse you.
  • Now imagine that before you stand your guardian angel. The most beautiful being you have ever dreamed of. The angel has greets you and embraces you.
  • Now the angel gives you a special gift. Stand in the light of the angel, bathing in the love and acceptance.
  • With gratitude in your heart, knowing that you may return at any time, leave the angel, when you are ready.
  • Turn and walk down the mountain side and when you reach the bottom taking a few deep breaths bring your awareness into your feet, hands and face.
  • Being fully present in the here and now, reflect on your gift and how you can use it.

Your gift may be a symbol, a special message, image or memory. What does it mean for you at this moment in time?  You may want to make a note in your diary or journal and see if it has any relevance in the days ahead. Or discuss it with loved ones – they may see some special significance in your gift that you have missed.

And this story is, perhaps, a note of caution to all of us:

Jo-anne had been repelled by her sense of disgust as she opened her front door to a man in filthy clothes at the door asking for food. Luckily the weather was good and she felt no obligation to ask him in. She she wanted to be charitable so asking him to wait outside she brought him some sandwiches and a drink. There was something unnerving about the man’s stare. His eyes were so blue, and piercing, yet gentle and ‘all-knowing’. He spread an old cloth on the mossy garden wall and sat to eat the food after thanking Jo-anne for her kindness. Not wanting to encourage him into conversation she went indoors and carried on with her work. After a few minutes she decided to take him a bottle of water for his journey. To her surprise he had gone. There was no sign of him anywhere. No bread crumbs on the floor, no indentation on the mossy wall. She opened the gate into the street. Not a sign of him. As she walked back into the kitchen, there on the table was a beautiful white feather. Could she have entertained an angel unawares?

“Be not forgetful to entertain strangers, for in so doing some have entertained angels unawares.”

(Hebrews 13:2 from The Bible)

An Angel’s Touch

AngelInsight_Discovery2Angels respect your right to be human.

We are all part of this fascinating creation. We are all very unique, special and loved. Though it would be foolish to think of ourselves as perfect, that would create an almost impossible position for us to have to live up to.

Marianne Williamson says ‘we are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not in some of us; it is in everyone’. We have chosen to become human beings, to incarnate with a role to play. The angels are here to help us achieve our goals. With prayer, meditation and an honest desire to achieve we can do the right thing, most of the time. And when we don’t? We are truly loved unconditionally, which means all the time, regardless of poor choices and our human frailties. As we liberate ourselves from the fear of failure our confidence and trust carries us forward and our presence automatically liberates others.

When an angel has touched you… you will never quite be the same again.

In my personal mentoring sessions with students and at the regular workshops I run around the world, people ask what they should be looking for, what do angels really look like, and whether figures surrounded by bright light, or blessed with wings, are really figments of the imagination.

My response is always the same. Angels present themselves in a way which is acceptable to each individual. There are no rights or wrongs. The imagination is the creative expression of everything in your mind and your heart. Every experience of this lifetime, and many others, is hidden away in your soul memory. Sometimes certain pictures and thoughts, dreams, words heard or read, can stimulate the creative aspect within our memory which then invokes pictures in our mind. Don’t worry whether it is real or imagined. Some would say nothing in life as we know it is real. When you hear the sound of an angel speak to you, or you feel the wisdom of Love touch your heart, or when you are stood in the presence of your guardian angel, whether in your dreams or reality, not only will you never forget, your life will never quite be the same.

Touched By Angels

affirmation_comfortWhen you look at life through the eyes of an angel, everything is in glowing colour.

Have you ever really looked at the leaves of a tree as they turn in the breeze and noticed the intricacy of their form? Have you noticed that the clusters of flowers adorning the chestnut tree so beautifully are all individually like tiny orchids? Have you stood recently and watched the sunset? When you consider the love in every particle of God’s creation in it’s fine detail and really see the beauty in everything you are then seeing life as it truly is meant to be.

When you begin to see through the eyes of an angel you cease judging others from a human perspective. Every situation, every encounter every one you meet has an inner beauty. Life takes on a brighter hue, a glow which is always visible to the angels and which you can see for yourself once you really see with the eyes of love.

An angel can touch you without being physical.

Angels can speak to you in the form of visions, dreams, whispers, nudges, a feeling, or a sense of knowing. Many people are ‘clair-audient’, this means that they can hear words spoken to them. Some are ‘clairvoyant’ and can see things which others cannot see. Others are ‘clair-sentient’ and feel a presence, which other people may not be able to feel. Each of these is a gift, which can be developed and used for the benefit of others.   The most common feelings described by people are ‘goose-bumps’, a tingling of the scalp or feeling that their hair is being touched. Sometimes there is a change of temperature and a sense of ‘music’ or a fragrance of flowers, particularly roses. You do not have to see an angel in its physical form to know when you have been encouraged or helped, you will feel it in your inner being. Allow yourself to believe in your heart. You will know for yourself. You do not need to prove it to anybody else.

Water, we cannot live without it.

Posted by on May 15, 2015

falling dropsAs I sit by the window under a grey sky with rain pouring to write my blog this week I’m having a little chuckle to myself. It’s Thursday and I’m thinking of the traditional communion with the Angel of Water. I was going to write about my narrow boat trip but couldn’t do that without mentioning that we were ‘plagued’ by showers. We sometimes get so annoyed or disappointed when it rains don’t we? We get cross when our favourite sport is often ‘rained-off’ and we dread so called ‘bad weather’ on our holidays and days off. It’s as if the only good weather is a warm sunny day and yet the rain is absolutely essential to life. Some of the phrases we use to describe heavy rain are interesting aren’t they? We say that its ‘teaming down’ or ‘pouring down’ as if someone is standing on the clouds with jugs of water to spitefully tip onto us. Why would we say the term ‘raining cats and dogs’ I wonder, that one doesn’t make any sense. Then there’s my granny’s favourite when she got an unexpected soaking: ‘The heaven’s opened’. The weather in all its glory has been a conversation topic that’s inspired many a joke around the world for centuries, yet it has played a vital role in rural life since history began. Now that I’ve lived out in the country for almost a decade and seen the rise and fall of the crops I can understand why. But it isn’t just the sunshine farmers look for to bring on healthy crops, it’s this all so important rain. The powerful element that nourishes, restores, bathes, soothes and heals all sentient beings, and everything we eat.The element that makes up over 70% of our human body and carries our memories and emotions within its cells. Water is sacred, and yet, do we give it the gratitude and regard it deserves?.

Many of you will have read about Dr Masui Emoto, the Japanese researcher and healer who’s photographic discovery proved that water cells react to sounds including all different types of music, and human thoughts and words (whether spoken or written) and the power of love. At one of the Essene Summer Gatherings, which I have co-organised for many years, we decided to conduct our own experiment with the vibrations of love and water. One of our members is a dowser. Not only can dowsing rods find water, but dowsing can also show us the expansion of the human aura. I was amazed, years ago, when I first saw just how powerful human thought and the energy of words had on us all as a group; but when we saw the effect of the same thoughts and words on a jug of water I was astounded. We filled a clear glass jug with water, thanked and blessed it then placed it on the table on top of one of Dr Emoto’s beautiful photographic images of a crystal of water representing “Love”. We left it there in the centre of our group meeting room during the morning meditation and healing workshop. We then took it into the room where we were holding our Essene Silent Meal. This begins with calling in the angels and a candle lighting ceremony which is very moving and sacred to the group. Afterwards we all went outside and stood in a circle, passed the jug around and gave a few mouthfuls to everyone, first asking them to focus on gratitude and love for the water as they drank and nourished their body.
Our dowsing colleague then measure the aura surrounding the group. She stepped back, and back, and back, as the rods remained wide and still. The distance between the group and the measuring rods was about thirty yards before her rods turned to show the edge of our group aura. she then tried to measure the energy surrounding the jug, but in fact it filled the room and we couldn’t find an end or boundary to it as it seemed to be filling the whole building with its energy.

Water carries our emotions, we now know it also carries memory and we hold that memory in all our cells. Now consider, the same water doesn’t leave the planet. It goes around and around our rivers like a gigantic circulatory system nourishing the Earth. Then it fills the oceans, eventually evaporating into the clouds and completing the circle by showering us with its rain. The same rain has been there since the beginning of the Earth, and as it falls and runs into the streams and rivers, it passes through each of us, throughout the whole of nature and back again, all of the world. Nurturing, bathing, quenching, soothing, cleansing, clearing, purifying, calming, powerful water. Carrying memories from the beginning of time. What an amazing thought.

Let’s remember to be grateful for every drop. It’s the element of water, it’s mystery and it’s memory that perhaps helps us to understand that we truly are all one.

Someone once told me that the raindrops were the tears of angels. As a child I automatically expected that meant tears of sadness. But if we fill the water with our love and gratitude then could not these raindrops be the angels’ tears of sheer joy?
